Skykomish River
Class III - V Whitewater :: Challenging to Difficult :: Ages 18 +
Boulder Drop Rapids :: Helmets Required :: Experience Preferred

The Skykomish River is the toughest whitewater raft trip within 3 hours of the Seattle metropolitan area and Orion encourages participants to have previous experience rafting before tackling the rigorous whitewater. The rapids on the Skykomish River range from Class III to Class V, depending on the water level. The 10 mile whitewater challenge starts in the mountain town of Index and ends outside the one-time mining community of Gold Bar. The Skykomish River combines mountainous waves and fast-moving water with river channels strewn with boulders. Participants should be 18 years and older.

Gnat's Ass Rapids
A hyperkinetic paddling pas de deux between the raft and dozens of closely spaced rocks and waves.

Anderson Hole Rapids
A massive whitewater void --- best avoided --- lying in the middle of the river just above the Class V Boulder Drop.

Boulder Drop Rapids
In the length a football field, the river drops four stories through house-sized granite boulders, narrow sluice gates of whitewater and the occasional wall of intimidating Class V water.

Lunch Hole (aka Nosferatu) Rapids
The river doglegs right and the swift current ricochets off the left bank creating several challenging waves.

Aquagasm Rapids
Fun, large rolling waves that, every now and then, you are not quite sure if you will ever reach the top.
